"Work and love; love and work... that's all there is." - Freud

I think Freud was right when he said "Work and love; love and work... that's all there is." People obsess about sex, money and power, but none of those come close to either being occupied in fulfilling work or in the love of others - because those three things are all means to an ends, whereas fulfilling work and love are processes which are their own ends.

Passive or Aggressive

I know everyone is dysfunctional but I rather begin friendships with people who are the more passive kind that aggressive kind, because I can help them become more assertive, brave and honest, and they see can easily see the benefits.  People who are at the other polarity are less likely to change in my experience because using the hammer seems to "get things done" - they often get what they want from being aggreessive, it's harder to see what they are missing out on, what they are destroying in the process of being aggressive.

Do I know you?

-->
by Antony Sammeroff
A scratch night play in one act for one actor and one actress.
Do I know you?
April and Anthony enter from opposite sides of the stage as they draw close they catch eyes and think they know each other immediately, but then a moment of doubt creeps in.
ANTONY [with enthusiasm]. Hey!
APRIL [responding in kind]. Hey!
There is a moment of credulity
ANTONY [communicating with his hands]I thought we…?
APRIL.  I thought we…
ANTONY.  But we don’t.
APRIL. No, we don’t…
ANTONY.  Well I’m Antony. [He presents his hand]
APRIL. I’m April…
They shake.
ANTONY.  So next time we will.
He smiles.
APRIL.  Next time we will.
They part.

Why does the suffering of Animals matter?

Somebody asked me: Why does the suffering of animals matter?

I have to say I'm with Spinoza on this one. Nothing matters at all except in relation to someone or something else.

The universe really doesn't give a shit, it just goes on on it's very own course, in all it's beauty and all it's violence.

However, to the animal it matters more than anything in the world. They suffer a horrendous subjective experiences when we harm them.

I encourage people to be kind to animals, and not to pay other people keep them in horrid conditions then kill them just so they can enjoy eating them for twenty minutes or however long it takes to eat a meal. It seems such little luxury to exchange for so much suffering.

If you do eat animals maybe try to eat less of them or buy grass-fed ones who are reared in better conditions. It might not help you directly, but it will make the world of difference to some living creature who has feelings not that different from your own ♥ xXx

Love is Selfish

You can't be in a relationship with someone except for 'selfish' reasons otherwise it's not a relationship it's doing someone a favour. You want to be involved with someone because You Want Them. You want someone to be involved with you because They Want You not because they feel they should because you want them.

Love is, and should always be, Selfish.

I wanted to possesses you

but no one should belong to anyone else
it's not right
to own a person
true love says to another
feel free to follow your inclinations
feel free to be as you are
for I love you
but not "don't do this or that for it will hurt my tender heart"
that is only love of self, not of another
or rather lack of love for self it should be said
because if one one truly loves oneself they would feel no need to possess another

being good

Antony Sammeroff · 5 September 2009 ·
so i don't know what being good is but i'm trying to learn how to be and i feel very scared confused and hurt a lot of the time and by the looks of it most of you feel the same so maybe we can try and help each other and teach each other what we've learned about it but I think the most important thing is to have these kind of thoughts, be honest with ourselves and try and fix ourselves first then we will share

Does Love Exist?

This is something I have been pondering particularly over the last couple of moths, but certainly for at least a year.

Of course I mean the concept of being “in love,” not the attachment for friends and family, the bond and love for their individuality and sheer being.

Is being “in love” something unique or just the right combination of lust, friendship, thinking a personality is beautiful and enjoying the time spent with them?
Are these two descriptions one and the same?

I know that in the past I’ve believed I was in love, I’ve had butterflies in my stomach just thinking of someone, but these feelings would fade over time (be it months or years) and I haven’t had butterflies for about four. Still though, this doesn’t negate the fact that those feelings actually existed. I certainly would have gone to the ends of the world for these people, but would I not do the same for those I feel the “other” kind of love?

I always consider that I am desensitized to these emotions, much like other things, and I have reasons to think this true.

If you say “I don’t believe in love” to the wrong people the will take in unkindly. “But I AM in love!” their minds will moan and they’ll make it their mission to convince you with their experiences of pain and sacrifice or unequivocal joy.
Could they be trying to justify their lust, or are they merely hurt at the thought that someone could think that all their strong emotions tied to a person are nothing but that, strong emotions.

I certainly don’t believe in the concept that there is a special person destined for everyone and love is forever, otherwise we’d all be in perfect relationships.
A married friend recently told me she thinks when you love someone it’s only in the beginning, the you just become accustomed to being with them. My hope is that one day I meet someone magical, and after the spark runs out she will be like my best friend with benefits, perhaps my wife and even the mother of my kids.
In fact, further down the line I would actually consider marrying some of my friends... watch out.
